Through 20 state-of-the-art galleries, visitors immerse themselves in the stories of some of the most remarkable tales of sacrifice, endurance, adventure, and discovery the world has ever known. Located in The chq Building in the heart of Dublin‘s docklands, EPIC brings these amazing stories to life in a spectacular way, using a range of imagery, video, sound and interactive technologies to create a powerful and emotive experience.

The timeline of the museum charts Irish emigration from the 6th century right up to the present day, and features the stories of over 325 people. On entry, visitors are issued with their own passport for their journey ahead in our departures hall, which can be stamped at each gallery along the way. You then travel through our galleries to learn what motivated people to leave, where they went to, and what they did once they arrived. The exhibition also shows how the dispersal of Irish people has helped spread Irish traditions and culture throughout the world, and how it has changed, adapted and been adopted by other nations and cultures.

The tour is self-guided, and the knowledgeable staff are on hand to help you with any further questions you may have. There are also audio guides available in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.

As part of the EPIC experience, the Irish Family History Centre is located as you exit the exhibition. Here visitors can search for their Irish ancestors, discover their own unique family story and explore Irish heritage. The Irish Family History Centre will allow visitors to sit with a genealogy expert for a 15-minute consultation, use interactive display screens to engage and uncover more about your Irish roots and observe Ireland’s Emigration and Migration. Make sure to also challenge yourself at a fun quiz to test your knowledge on Ireland.

Take a seat at one of the workstations where you can sign up to the Irish Family History Centre website and join the online community. Access records where you will be able to search through the largest number of Irish family history records such as: Birth, Marriage and Death records; Census records; Parish records; travel and migration records.
